I am quite fond of discarded materials. My collection of "found objects" discovered and rescued, take refuge in the studio. They present themselves as a gift, inviting me to breathe new life into them. The juxtaposition of these objects place them in a new context. Their former functions are forgotten and a new story unfolds.
I fuse these fragements and collage materials onto a wood or slate surface with beeswax. Oil paint is added for color. Heating the beeswax fuses it with the oil color and collage material. Heat binds each layer to the one set down before it. This method is known as encaustic.
